We’re well and truly into the festive period, which means many of you will have begun to stock up on sweet treats and savory delights in time for the holidays. While there’s no harm in tucking into a mince pie or candy cane in moderation, it’s easy to indulge a little too much.
This can leave us with bulging waistlines and carrying a little excess weight come the new year, which can be difficult to shift. Finding time to exercise can also be a struggle, what with the festive season being one of the busiest times of the year; but it’s not impossible.
There are a number of ways that you can incorporate quick and easy workouts into your holiday schedule. Here are just a few:
Power walking
There’s nothing like stepping into the fresh outdoors and taking in the picturesque views. So while you’re waiting for your turkey to cook in the oven, head outside for a brisk power walk.
If there is a scenic park or field near to your home, put your walking boots on and stretch your legs for half an hour or so. You may wish to do this with your family or a friend, in order to keep you company and enable you to stay fit together.
By the time you return home, your turkey should be ready to take out of the oven. So kick your shoes off, relax and enjoy!
Sign up for a fitness class
There’s no denying that the holiday season is an expensive one, so if you don’t wish to fork out on a pricey gym membership, why not sign up for a bundle of fitness classes instead?
Many leisure centers offer a range of classes: from yoga and pilates to Zumba and boxing. These are held on specific days and at certain times, which means you can fit them in around your busy schedule. What’s more, since you will have paid for the classes in advance, you’re more likely to avoid missing them. After all, you wouldn’t want your money going to waste!
Active presents
A great way to keep fit during the festive period is to ask your loved ones to buy you active presents. This could include items such as a micro-scooter, a set of free weights or a medicine ball.
When you go to use your gift, you’ll be keeping fit and having fun at the same time!
Go for a jog
If you normally run on a treadmill, but don’t have time to head to the gym this month, get outside and go jogging instead.
You will find that running outdoors is a lot more liberating than being stuck inside on a machine. What’s more, it’s a good excuse to ask your loved ones for a new pair of running trainers for a health-related gift, so you can really put them to the test on the track.
Keeping fit over the festive period means that you can enjoy the treats and snacks that come with it, without feeling guilty the next day!
