On days when you\u2019re short on time and energy, you need simple food that you can whip up as fast as it\u2019ll be devoured when you put it in front of your hungry family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s some help!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rethink dinner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re busy and you\u2019re probably tired. You don\u2019t have time to spend hours creating an elaborate feast at the end of a weekday\u2014so don\u2019t. Sure, you still need to offer something hearty and healthy, but that could be a big bun stuffed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allrecipes.com\/recipe\/14504\/california-grilled-veggie-sandwich\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">grilled vegetables<\/a> and your cheese of choice, or a platter of chopped fresh vegetables with a little ranch dip and <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/egg-salad\/#wprm-recipe-container-44489\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">egg salad sandwiches<\/a> on the side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t make a fuss. Just make it simple!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prep in advance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a few minutes to prep what you can for the next day\u2019s meal before you head off to bed. Wash and chop your vegetables, find all your spices and other pantry ingredients that tend to get shoved to the back of your cupboard, marinate your meat\u2014whatever you can do in advance to help you get your meal in the oven as fast as possible the next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Look for one-pot and sheet-pan recipes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthy-delicious.com\/20-healthy-sheet-pan-dinners-for-busy-weeknights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sheet-pan dinners<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taste.com.au\/galleries\/top-50-easy-one-pot-meals\/xvg3xhix\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one-pot meals<\/a> are fantastic for weeknights because everything usually cooks at the same time, and always in the same pot or pan so there\u2019s less cleanup.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Make big batches<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you\u2019re cooking things like spaghetti sauce, soups, chili, and casseroles, always double the recipe. Freeze the leftovers and you\u2019ve got a complete meal ready to pull out of the freezer on a busy day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some people even dedicate one or two days per month to making <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/recipes\/collection\/batch-cooking-recipes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">big batch meals<\/a> that they freeze and put away for future use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Plan leftovers wisely<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you\u2019re shopping and planning your menus, always think about how you might be able to turn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allrecipes.com\/recipes\/14503\/everyday-cooking\/everyday-leftovers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leftovers<\/a> into a second meal later in the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you get a deal on roasting chickens, buy two and cook them at the same time. Use the second chicken the next day for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spendwithpennies.com\/classic-chicken-salad-recipe\/#wprm-recipe-container-156827\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chicken salad sandwiches<\/a>, or a quick soup. Leftover rice? Fried rice! Leftover mashed potatoes? Potato pancakes! Leftover ham? Not only are soups usually quick and easy to make, but they can also be very nutritious when they\u2019re packed with vegetables, lean meat and a hearty broth.
